ISER-N in collaboration with the Survey Research Center of the University of Michigan, USA organized a 5-day training on Survey Data Analysis Techniques from November 24-28, 2014 at its central campus in Fulbari, Chitwan. The goal of this short course was to provide theoretical understanding as well as hands-on practical skills on appropriate survey data analysis techniques to empirically answer research questions and logical interpretation of the results using the real world data. This training is a part of the institute’s goal of enhancing social and environmental research capacity in Nepal and the region.
This short course on Survey Data Analysis Techniques provided both theoretical and practical understanding of identifying and designing a policy relevant research question and choosing appropriate data analysis techniques to empirically answer the question using survey data. Participants were research scholars from International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Lalitpur, Nepal; UNICEF, Nepal; UNICEF, Pakistan; PRIME, India; Sano Paila (A Little Step), Nepal; University of Bohol, Phillipines; Research Institute for Mindanao Culture (RIMCU), Phillipines; ISER-Nepal; Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU); Interdisciplinary Analysts (IDA).
Based on the theoretical knowledge and practical skills gained during the training, the participants prepared their project works using the real world survey data and presented the work to the group. This project primarily focused on the uses of appropriate univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistical tools to answer the research question. All the presentations were excellent and reflected their enhanced capacity on the use of various survey data analysis techniques and the interpretation of the results.
