LOCATION: Amarsingh chowk, Pokhara, Kaski, Nepal

The Institute for Social and Environmental Research Nepal (ISER-N) is a non-governmental, non-profit, independent research and development organization. ISER-N aims to enhance understanding of Nepal’s social and environmental problems through rigorous scientific research. ISER-N is designed to provide the personnel and infrastructure to implement large-scale, social and environmental research projects.  ISER-N collaborates with several universities and research organizations around the world, therefore the ISER-N code of conduct is governed by international quality standards. Over the past 20 years, ISER-N has developed a tremendous wealth of setting-specific research protocols, technical tools, financial and administrative procedures and systems. Each year, ISER-N employs up to 150 staff members and conducts 3-6 different large-scale research projects funded by agencies such as the National Institutes of Health USA, the National Science Foundation USA, National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS), USA and the Department of International Development (DFID) UK.

ISER-N is seeking competent, committed, result oriented, dynamic and hard-working candidate for the position of Research Officer for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences -funded epidemiological study entitled “Investigation of ocular disease and household fuel use in Kaski district, Nepal” to be based in Pokhara. These position is for the current project period with a possibility of extension to other projects.

The Research Officer (RO) is responsible to carry out the data collection activities for an epidemiological study entitled “Investigation of ocular disease and household fuel use in Kaski district, Nepal” as directed by the Study Manager. The RO will report directly to the Study Manager of the Study. 

Schedule and administer interviews, and conduct data collection following research procedures. The procedures will include measurement of home dimensions, take photographs of homes and cooking, heating and lighting devices and conduct measurements of ventilation rates within homes.
Collection of blood samples for diabetes testing.
Transport blood samples of study participant to the study lab.
Administer questionnaires with a laptop computer to study participants and regularly upload data to the dedicated study server.

Bachelor’s degree in public health/BN with health assistant/staff nurse background, or Health assistant, staff nurse degree with two years of similar working experience in the study field.
Capable for conducting survey interviews.
Must phlebotomy training and experience in taking blood sample.
Computer skills (including Word, Excel, Access, SKYPE, internet).
Competent in spoken and written English.
